Issue: Offline maps and trail disappear for iPhone users of FarOut
What triggers the issue: a) if you are in airplane mode with FarOut open, then b) leave airplane mode to check for service while FarOut is still open, and c) there is no service.
This issue only affects users with iOS version 16. We believe Apple is aware of this issue as we have reached out and let them know multiple times, and we are waiting for their next iOS update. We are also closing in on the issue ourselves by reworking parts of the app.
In the meantime we have a possible workaround based upon our observations and our customers’ observations.
These are NOT guaranteed fixes, but may help.
Workaround 1:
Switch your online maps to Satellite:
Menu (bottom right of screen) > More > Settings > Online Map > Satellite Map
Workaround 2:
Disable cellular data for FarOut. Please note that this will not allow you to to receive updated comments in real time if you do not have wifi.
1. Open Settings on your iPhone (the phone Settings, not the FarOut app Settings)
2. Search for FarOut using the search bar at the top
3. Select FarOut
4. Toggle “Cellular Data” to off (so that it is gray, not green)
Workaround 3:
Completely close out of FarOut (swipe out) before leaving airplane mode. Then open FarOut again after airplane mode has been re-established.
