Via Transilvanica is a world-class long-distance trail that connects diverse regions and communities, allowing hikers to discover Transylvania and Romania, while being exposed to unique experiences in an authentic, varied natural, cultural and historical setting. This path breaks down barriers between generations and cultures. It is also about diversity, from the blade of grass on the banks of the Danube, to the mountain ridges, the landscapes that reveal themselves as you move from one stage of the road to the other are as different as the locals you meet along the way, or the people who travel the route. As a Tășuleasa Social project, Via Transilvanica is first and foremost a social project, because it has the community at its heart. These are the people of the road, the volunteers who built this route, the hikers who already or will walk it, the families who offer hospitality along the way and the ones who take the news of this trail further. The aim of the project is to develop slow tourism in Romania, to make it easier for travelers to access the communities along the route and their stories, helping them to grow in a sustainable and responsible way.

The signage of the project is very special, besides that it follows our goal to have a route on which no one is allowed to get lost. On the more than 1400 km hikers will find the symbol of the path in the form of natural stone (andesite) bollards. These are works of art individually created in Tășuleasa Social Organization’s campus by Romanian or foreign sculptors. These milestones are the identity element that make Via Transilvanica one of the largest outdoor sculpture exhibitions in the world that we invite everyone to discover. Perhaps the best illustration of the social nature of this project are these bollards which teach us that art is not a luxury but a social circuit.

About Our Partner

Tășuleasa Social Association develops volunteer projects at the community level to address society’s diverse needs. Focusing on social, environmental, educational, and cultural initiatives, it stimulates civic engagement in the preservation and development of local heritage. The association envisions a country that respects and cares for everyone, both Romanians and visitors alike.

They aim to conserve cultural and natural treasures and educate people to value them. By focusing primarily on young adults and children, Tășuleasa Social inspires the next generation to embrace community values and make the most of their local resources. Believing that true change comes through education and leading by example, they nurture this transformation through hands-on volunteering opportunities.

Over the past 24 years, Tășuleasa Social has built purpose-driven projects that grow organically from one another. In redefining the spirit of volunteering, it has shown that small, individual actions, when multiplied, can make a profound impact on society.
